Adorable kitchen sayings

The Idea: Back in January, I found an idea I totally loved on Pinterest. They were cute kitchen printables that were playing on words. See original source here...adorable idea from Over the Big Moon's blog. However, my kitchen has a distinct color theme...red, white and blue. I tried to use their printables, but I would have had to go and change about 200+ little tiny pixels to be the right color. Ya, I didn't want to do that. I got this wonderful idea to use actual kitchen tools. Whoohoo.

A sneak peak at the after.....

Shopping: I totally scored a few weeks ago when Hobby Lobby was having a sale on all their unfinished wood. I snapped up the wooded spoon and to my amazement...I found tiny little rolling pins! I didn't know what I was going to do for the rolling pin, and this was just perfect. Next up was the grater. I knew Dollar Tree had red kitchen accessories...I really really hoped they had the grater. They did! They even had 2 different options. Whoohoo. Last up was the frames. I totally love Ikea. I knew they had to have cheap frames...and they didn't disappoint. They even had red and blue ( I stuck with just blue though because there are so many variations of red out there). I got each frame for $1.99 each. Sweet!

The process: Totally simple project.

I painted the spoon and rolling pin...
Why does blogger like to rotate my pictures???

I then printed off the sayings on to printer paper and put them in the frames. The frames came with a plastic film instead of glass and I just put the paper in front of it. I then used glue dots to attach the spoon, rolling pin, and grater.

Finished product: Super cute!

Gotta have close ups of all of them.

They look adorable up in their new home! I was afraid that they would be hard to see, but they are just fine. Yippee!

I love how the project turned out and for about $10 I have a little more decoration on top of my cabinets.

Materials List:

  • 3 frames
  • wood spoon
  • small wood rolling pin (found mine in a pack of 3 at Hobby Lobby in the unfinished wood section).
  • grater
  • paint/brush
  • glue dots
  • printer (color printer if you want your words in color)

Primary Lesson cards

I've been teaching Primary at Church for almost two years. I can't believe it's been that long. My go to site for resources has always been Sugardoodle. It is so easy to just go and look at a certain lesson and pick out a coloring page or some other neat activity.

When I went to Sugardoodle for my first lesson in January, I found a totally awesome resource. Primary Lesson Cards! It has little 1/4 sheet and occasionally a 1/2 sheet printable for each lesson. I don't even have to search through the options and find which works best for my class. They are perfect! It gives them a little activity to do, not just a coloring sheet.

A few weeks ago I put together little books for my 7-8 year olds. They got to take them home and can add their new sheet each Sunday. Perfect!

If you are teaching from the Primary 2 manual, you need to check out this resource!

Lucky blocks!

I'm going to start my blog off with one of my most recent crafts. After Valentine's day was over, it was time to jump into getting ready for St. Patrick's Day. This was the perfect project for me on a Sunday afternoon.

We are in the process of building a table and we had some little blocks of wood left over...and the project was born. Here is the final project....

My entry to  the appliances online  crafty creations competition. You can enter too at Lil’luna!

I'm fairly certain I saw some pin on pinterest that had the word LUCK(Y) with some cute green decoration on it, and that word was perfect for this.

The Letters: I downloaded a neat Celtic font to give my blocks a little more Irish flare. Yes, I know the 'L' is a little different. It is lowercase because the capital 'L' wasn't very Celtic. I used my Silhouette to cut out the letters.

The Blocks: Here is the breakdown of how I did the blocks.

The "C": I painted some "Shamrock Green" on the edges, and then Mod Podged some cute scrapbook paper on. I then used more Mod Podge to glue down the "C" that was cut out of white card stock. Another layer of Mod Podge was used to seal the whole block up.

The "U" and "K": I used wood stain for these blocks (testing stains for the table). I cut out the letters from the cute shamrock paper on my Silhouette. A layer of Mod Podge to glue the letters down and another layer to seal the block.

The "L" and "Y": I painted the blocks in Shamrock Green and Spring Green. I then cut out the letters using vinyl. I used the outline of the letter as a stencil and painted the opposite color on. I waited until the paint was very dry until I removed the vinyl. Some of the paint leaked a little, but it's all good. I then sealed the block with Mod Podge.

I'm so thrilled with how it came together! Each block is a little different, but it all coordinates.

Materials:

  • 5 blocks any size you want.
  • 2 different color green paint. I used Shamrock and Spring Green.
  • 2 different color wood stain. I got mine for about $5/piece for a sample size at Lowes.
  • 1 12x12 sheet shamrock paper
  • Mod Podge. I used matte.
  • White vinyl (for the letter 'c' and to use as a stencil for 'l' and 'y'.
  • electronic cutting machine or letter stencils.

I thought it was time

For the past few months I've really started to get into crafting more. Growing up, my mom was always doing some sort of craft and I too eventually got into a few neat crafty things. Once I moved away to go to college, I ceased using my creative mind for crafts. School took all my time and before I finished school, I started having kids. I had 3 kids by the time I was done with my Masters degree. I was too overwhelmed to even think about getting into projects I enjoyed. Heck, it often took me a year to finish a book...and I use to read a book a day as a teen. I then went and added a few more kids to the mix and even started homeschool. Boy was I stretched to the max.

Now, my youngest is 2 1/2 and I sent my kids to public school so I only have 2 kids at home during the day. Boy, life is so much easier now! Well, at least when the kids are in school :D. I have found myself with actual free time. No staying up late with a baby, no middle of the night nursing calls, no changing 4 kids' diapers all day long (yes, for a while I had to).

As a teen, I was very into making jewelry with the small seed beads. I can't wait until I can do that again. My youngest is only 2 and I fear that he would eat some tiny glass beads...which is probably not the best idea. Some day I'll get to enjoy that again. For now, I'm branching out and trying all sorts of neat craft ideas. I've really fallen in love with painting. Not painting pictures, just painting a piece of wood (or whatever) a solid color. There is something very soothing about that to me. I'm sure you will find me doing many project involving painting wood.

I can't wait to see where my journey takes me.
